Played as the I Memorial Urbano González Escapa, the game was organized as a tribute and to raise awareness for ALS. With the Liga Endesa and the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague yet to tip off, both clubs used the date for extended rotations and to build continuity ahead of the official season.
The event brought elite basketball back to León, with a 20:00 tip-off broadcast live on Realmadrid TV, and combined sporting preparation with a solidarity initiative in Spain.
