Valencia Basket land Nikola Mirotic
Valencia Basket have officially signed Nikola Mirotic for the 2026-27 season. The Montenegrin forward arrives as a free agent after leaving AS Monaco on a one-year deal and is already part of the club's roster with immediate effect.
The agreement, announced on 15 September, gives Valencia the interior piece that completed its frontcourt rotation. Both acb.com oficial and RTVE report a one-season contract and confirm that Mirotic joined as a free agent.
An experienced four for the frontcourt
At 35 years old and 2.08 metres, Mirotic slots in at power forward for a roster that needed interior depth after the departures of Braxton Key and Jaime Pradilla. His return to Liga Endesa comes three seasons after his spells in Italy and France, with a proven profile as a floor-spacing big in EuroLeague competition.
At AS Monaco he averaged 11.1 points on 40.3% from three and 3.7 rebounds in the French league, plus 11.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and a 12.7 PIR in 31 EuroLeague games. He won the French Supercup, Leaders Cup, French Cup and league title before becoming available when Monaco left elite basketball.
Background, local quota and Valencia fit
Developed in Real Madrid's youth system, Mirotic was Liga Endesa MVP in 2012-13 before moving to the NBA for five seasons. He later played for FC Barcelona, Olimpia Milano and Monaco. His Madrid academy background also makes him eligible as a locally developed player in the ACB, a useful roster slot for Valencia.
Mirotic previewed the move himself in a video recorded at Manises airport: "Hi Valencia, I was told you were looking for a four, so... here I am." The clip, shared by the club, captured the straightforward tone of one of the summer's most discussed signings.
EuroLeague continuity
Mirotic will begin his 13th EuroLeague campaign in Valencia colours. He has been a constant in the competition apart from his NBA years and a loan spell at Palencia at 18, so Valencia add a veteran with long elite experience in Europe.
The signing strengthens a Valencia side coming off a Final Four debut and aiming higher in Liga Endesa and EuroLeague. The move closes the search for a four and gives the club an additional local-development quota for 2026-27.
