Uruguay earns a pivotal home win
Uruguay controlled the decisive stretches and pulled away with greater consistency in the second half. Bruno Fitipaldo led the home attack with 20 points, while J. Rodriguez and S. Vescovi added 17 and 16 to keep Puerto Rico from finding an outside rhythm.
Alvarado runs the offense, but cannot score
Jose Alvarado rejoined Puerto Rico after his NBA season with the New York Knicks and took on a leading backcourt role from the opening tip. His scoring night was frustrating nonetheless: he finished with 3 points on 1-of-9 shooting, including 1-of-8 from three and 0-of-1 from the line, in just over 33 minutes.
Despite the poor shooting, he dished 8 assists, grabbed 5 rebounds and committed no turnovers. Puerto Rico could not turn workable possessions into points down the stretch.
