Cumberland's profile
Cumberland, a guard out of the University of Cincinnati who went undrafted in 2020, has played only three NBA games with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2021-22 season. Since then he has moved between G League affiliates, splitting last season between Osceola Magic and the South Bay Lakers.
Across 45 G League outings he averaged 5.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 18.7 minutes, a rotation perimeter profile with transition value and basic playmaking.
What the waiver means
By leaving the Magic roster, Cumberland vacates a training-camp spot and becomes a free agent until his next destination is settled. The move does not necessarily end his relationship with Orlando: Hoops Rumors adds that the franchise keeps his G League rights and that he is expected to report to Osceola Magic.
For the Magic, the waiver frees a camp roster spot on a day when they also added Kevin Knox II on an Exhibit 10 deal and waived other non-guaranteed profiles such as Ricky Council IV, Au'Diese Toney and Ace Baldwin Jr.
