Unicaja make Matt Thomas signing official

Unicaja have officially announced the signing of Matt Thomas for Liga Endesa 2026/27. The 32-year-old American guard, listed at 1.91 metres, arrives from Besiktas Istanbul on a two-month deal with an option to extend until the end of the season, already effective after passing his medical and joining Txus Vidorreta group.

The agreement appears on acb.com oficial and was detailed by Mundo Deportivo on September 29, when it was confirmed that the player is already training with the Malaga side.

Shooting profile with Liga Endesa experience

Raised at Iowa State and born in Decatur, Illinois, Thomas is a shooting guard with long European and NBA mileage. He started his pro career with Monbus Obradoiro in 2017-18 averaging 15.4 points, later played for Valencia Basket and won the 2019 three-point contest. In the NBA he totalled 126 games for the Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz and Chicago Bulls at 40.4 percent from three.

After the United States he returned to Europe with Panathinaikos, ALBA Berlin and a Liga Endesa comeback with Coviran Granada, where he averaged 14.6 points on 46.1 percent three-point shooting across 14 games, before finishing last season with Besiktas in the EuroCup. His profile fits as proven perimeter threat for the Malaga backcourt.

Fit and roster context

The move adds outside shooting and experience to Txus Vidorreta backcourt rotation in Liga Endesa. Thomas can play shooting guard minutes off the bench and needs little adaptation time thanks to his knowledge of the competition.

For the player it means returning to Spain after his January 2026 switch to Turkey. For Unicaja it means closing a temporary reinforcement with room for continuity without changing long-term planning.
