Minnesota Timberwolves explored adding Sasha Vezenkov this summer before completing the signing of Jonathan Kuminga in early September. Exploratory interest without formal offer
Minnesota's front office checked the availability of the 2.06m, 31-year-old forward to assess a return to the NBA two years after his first stint, without submitting a contractual offer. The talks stayed at the preliminary inquiry stage and Vezenkov kept his commitment to continue in Europe, where he has just won the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and was named MVP.
The Bulgarian played 42 games for the Sacramento Kings in 2023-24, averaging 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds, before being moved to Toronto and choosing to return to Europe. His profile had been tracked by the Wolves as an option at the four.
Pivot to Kuminga
With the Vezenkov route not advancing, Minnesota shifted its market focus to Jonathan Kuminga, added in early September to round out the roster. The move closes a summer search for a forward capable of playing the four and adds athleticism and transition scoring.
