Official waiver in Atlanta

The Atlanta Hawks have waived guard Devon Higgs with immediate effect, leaving him without an NBA team just one day after adding him to their preseason roster. The move, effective on September 9, confirms his exit from the franchise and opens the door to a G League pathway.

The transaction is listed on NBA.com oficial and was detailed by Hoops Rumors, which places the waiver one day after Higgs signed a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract with Atlanta on September 8, in a related move that brought in forward Keyshawn Bryant.

Higgs profile

Higgs, a 6-foot-5 Georgia native, went undrafted in 2023 after Georgia Southwestern State. He has since played primarily in the G League with the Motor City Cruise, Greensboro Swarm and, most recently, the College Park Skyhawks, Atlanta affiliate. In six games with College Park last season he averaged 8.0 points, 2.2 steals and 1.5 rebounds in 20.5 minutes, shooting 56.7 percent from the field.

With Atlanta Summer League team he played six games with 11.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 21.5 minutes, earning the training camp contract signed on Tuesday. Hoops Rumors notes that, like other development profiles, the Exhibit 10 deal was designed to facilitate his pathway to College Park.

What the waiver means

Once off the Hawks roster, Higgs no longer occupies the 21st preseason spot and becomes a free agent until his next step is finalized. The most likely path within Atlanta project leads to the College Park Skyhawks, where he already spent time within the franchise structure last season.

If he lands with the affiliate and spends at least 60 days in the G League, he could earn an Exhibit 10 bonus worth up to $91,000. For the Hawks, the waiver clears the slot he occupied since Tuesday and restores a full 21-man camp roster after Bryant signing.

Roster context

The move fits the pattern Atlanta has repeated this preseason: sign development players on Exhibit 10 deals, rotate camp roster spots and secure their pathway to College Park. For Higgs, the waiver does not shut the door on the Hawks ecosystem; it is part of the intended route for Exhibit 10 players seeking minutes and continuity in the G League.
